Digory's Diary

March 2, 2006

Yippie!  Today I was born.  Wow, it sure is cold out here.  I'm glad that I've got a nice fur coat and my mommy to keep me warm.  There are some really nice people around here that like to kiss my nose.  I heard that they call this place Critter Haven Farm in Oxford, Pennsylvania.  There's a really nice lady named Diane, that takes real good care of me.  It's a place where I feel very loved!

My mommy told me that I am very special and that there are some people in Florida that think that they have the perfect home for me.  It is called Tomorrow's Rainbow.  It's a place where I get to bring great big smiles to bereaved children.  It sounds like a really important job.  I would be great at it!  I love children!

Today, I found out that the people at Tomorrow's Rainbow fell in love with me (I think that my ears had something to do with it).   I am now considered "SOLD".   Wow, I'm moving to Florida!  What is Florida, anyway?

Today I had a pedicure by a man called a farrier.  I'm not sure what all of the hype is about.  I really didn't like it very much, but I was a good boy.  Wasn't there supposed to be a bubble soak and a hoof massage?

Today, Diane put this thing over my nose and behind my ears.  Yikes!  I'm not sure if I liked it.  She said that it is called a halter and that all big boys wear them.  I guess that it's not so bad.  I'll be brave!

I'm working on my bray (that's donkey talk).  All the grown-up donkeys can do it, but so far all that I can come up with is a squeak.  I'm gonna keep practicing until I get it just right!  I want to make sure that I have it perfected before my ride to Florida.

What a challenging day!  Gosh, I didn't know that it was such hard work to be so handsome.  Diane gave me the complete "spa" treatment.  I put my halter on like a big boy with no fuss at all.  Then, I had the full head to tail hairdo.  I thought that my hair was perfect just the way it was.  Well, after I got over the strange sounds, I have to admit that it felt really, really good.  Next, it was time for a serious, all the way around, hoof trim.

Last time, Diane held me in her arms.  That made me feel safe and secure.  This time, I had to stand there like a grown up donkey.  Hah! I decided it was time to play a funny game of charades with them. They never guessed that I was a rabbit or a kangaroo!  When it came time to do the last hoof, I acted like a statue.  They were very proud of me.

Spa day is exhausting!  I had no energy left to play any more games.  Diane led me around the barn to practice my leading exercises.  I was the perfect donkey.  Everyone was so proud of me!

Hooray!  I got a new sister today!  She is waiting for me in Florida.  Her name is Precious!  Wait, I thought that I was precious.  What's up with that?

My sister's color is a lot like mine, but yikes, those ears.  How does she hear out of those little things, anyway?  I wonder if we can stretch them somehow.  I sure hope that she can speak donkey.

I love my sister already.  I can't wait to see her and give her a big kiss.  It looks like she is really good at that!

Today it was off for another pedicure.  I'm gonna have the prettiest hooves in Florida!  I had to squirm a bit for the first two , but then I was a good boy.

Diane said it was time to see just how big I am.  She measured me and couldn't believe her eyes.  I'm 25 1/4 inches now!  I am such a BIG boy!!

Today I went on a very long outing without my mom in sight!  My Pennsylvania family took me with their miniature horse yearling, Twister, for an adventure.  I REALLY liked eating the grass and running around.  I had so much fun that I didn't even squeek one time for my mommy.

Diane says that all of my papers will be ready on Wednesday, and my new family will be here by the end of the week.  They sure must love me a lot cause they're driving a long way to come get me.  I hope that they are big huggers like Diane is!

Hooray!  I met my new family.  Gosh they really love me.  They gave me big hugs and kisses.  I had so much fun playing tag with them and introducing them to all of the "long ears" on the farm.  They said that they are going to take me to Florida on Sunday.  That will give me time to get used to them and to say goodbye to my Pennsylvania family.  I will be a little sad to say goodbye, but I am really excited about my new job in Florida!  Oh yeah, they said that I will have to get a haircut when I get to Florida.  I wonder if they think that I'm gonna like that!

I got another visit from my Florida family today.  I had so much fun getting to know them.  The rest of my donkey friends really liked hanging out with them too.

Abby put a halter on me and took me for a walk.  I wasn't really very excited about having to go by myself, but I was brave.  We ran around in the front yard and I ate lots of grass.

Shel decided to do a test run by putting me in the mini van.  That really wasn't my favorite thing in the whole wide world to do.  I'll get used to it, but I hope that Florida isn't too far away!

Yippie!  Today's the day.  I'm going to Florida to my new home at Tomorrow's Rainbow.  I'm a little scared, but I know that I'm gonna get a bunch of kisses and hugs for the whole trip, so I'll be fine.

They say that Florida is a whole day away.  Boy, they sure must think that I'm an important donkey to drive all that way to get me.  Soon, I'll be with my new four legged family.  I can't wait to meet Sparky, Mac, Dappy, Ruby, Boo, Polly, Dolly, Precious, Sugar, Cookie, Oopsie, Riley, Little Bit and Dreama!

Well, I'm off!  I'll see you in Florida!

I'm so happy!  I made it to Florida.  I wasn't sure that we were ever going to get there 'cause I was in that van for a long time.  It gave me lots of time to practice my bray, and I'm proud to say that I no longer squeek!  HEE HAW!

I met so many super friends along the way.  And when we stopped at South of the Border, I just had to dress for success!

When we arrived at my new home at the Tomorrow's Rainbow Ranch, I was greeted by a lot of donkeys with REALLY short ears.  I think that they call them ponies.  I don't know how they stand the heat!  It was off with my fur coat in a jiffy.  Don't I look handsome?

I'm not so sure about the ponies on the farm.  I think that I like my people family better.  I'm doing my best to convince them that I belong in the house.  So far, I'm winning!

I am the happiest donkey in the world!  Today was my first day on the job at Tomorrow's Rainbow.  I did super fantastic.  The children loved me!  I loved the children!  Life is grand!

I have done my best to keep my new family on their toes.  After several trips to Home Depot to fix the fences so that I can't jump through, I have finally decided to stay in the paddock and be friends with Boo.  He's so quiet!  I'm gonna teach him to speak donkey.  I'm not sure what I can do about his pitiful little ears, though.

Today was NOT the best day of my life!  Doc came out to make me a gelding.  Okay, that wasn't funny.  I'm recovering just fine, but my pride is a little hurt.  Don't bother looking for a picture to match this entry -
I PUT MY HOOF DOWN!

Life is wonderful again!  I got the best surprise in the whole wide world today.  A girlfriend!  Her name is Duchess and she is gorgeous.  She has "normal" ears and can understand me better than the rest of my pony friends.  And she has a great set of lungs on her.  That's my gal!  I think I might be in love...

I got a new friend today!  His name is Floyd.  He doesn't look anything like the other animals on the farm.  He's really short, and no matter how hard I try not to, I keep looking at his nose.  Poor guy must have run head first into a fence!  And, his bray is hopeless.  All he can squeeze out is an "oink."  He's a cool little friend.  I'm glad that his pen is right next to my stall.

This morning when I woke up, I felt all warm and fuzzy inside!  I'm not sure what came over me, but as I gazed (it's like grazing, but with your eyes) over at my gorgeous girlfriend, Duchess, I realized that today was the day.  I rolled in the sand to make sure that I was good and handsome, got on one knee (not as easy as it looks), and asked my dear Duchess to marry me.  Can you believe it???  I really did!  I asked Duchess to be my wife.

She said, "HEE HAW!"

I promised Duchess that we could have a huge wedding.  I just can't say no to that gal!  So here we go...get ready for the Wedding of the Century!!!

Dum, dum, duh, dum...
Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Digory Donkey!  Yup, we did it.  Duchess and I tied the knot.  No more bachelor donkey for me.
Today there were more than 300 people at Tomorrow's Rainbow watching our wedding.  There were 2 news stations and several reporters on hand to make sure that everyone knew about the Wedding of the Century!  The wedding was a blast, but I thought that the best part was watching all of the children laugh and smile.  That's when I'm happiest!

September 6, 2007
Duchess and I are blissfully enjoying married life.  Each day brings more fun than the last, and we're still great at spreading smiles around the farm.  I know that I've got a great thing going here, so if Duchess gets too far away from me, you can hear me shout for miles!   It may seem a bit controlling, but I love that gal and just can't bare to have her out of my sight!

January 5, 2008
You'll never guessed what happened today.  We got kids!  They are a bit funny looking.  I just can't figure out how anybody hears anything around here with such tiny ears.  If you would like to meet the kids, make sure to make plans to come to our anniversary party.  May 4, 2008, is the date.  My beautiful wife will be wearing her Sunday best, and of course, I'll be just as handsome as ever.  You can learn more at: www.TomorrowsRainbow.org
See you there!
